Subject: KIF use for heterogeneous DBs

I'm new to this list, so sorry if this topic has been covered

I am trying to get a feel for how people have used KIF in actual
heterogeneous systems. I'm considering using KIF for the following

We integrate sets of heterogeneous/distributed databases into
what we call a Smart Data Dictionary (SDD). The SDD captures
database structure as well as domain semantics. It is the
domain semantics that have a "knowledge-base" twist to them and
they are used as arbitrary assertions & propositions that the SDD
uses to perform and manage DB integration.
With an environment of multiple SDDs, we are constructing
a model where the different SDDs communicate DB structure and
semantics to engage in joint (or cooperative) query answering.

This is a very vague description, but I decided to send this small
note to solicit interest/related work before going into details.

Basically, I'm wondering if anyone has used KIF to encode and
exchange knowledge and structure about heterogeneous/distributed databases.
I would be interested in learning what kind of knowledge was
encoded/exchanged, how KIF was used, and any other pieces of information
in using KIF for this purpose.

Thanks for your help,
