Design and Evaluation of Multimedia Stimuli to Evoke Clinical Concepts

Reference: Wyatt, J. C.; Detmer, W. M.; & Fagan, L. M. Design and Evaluation of Multimedia Stimuli to Evoke Clinical Concepts. Washington D.C., 1993.

Abstract: We describe the development and evaluation of a HyperCard stack to evoke 20 QMR physical findings using the minimum of words. Despite rejecting 46% of the findings on our short list because they were infeasible, piloting the remainder and using up to four different stimuli to communicate each finding, 8 test subjects made 66 errors (42%) in interpreting the findings, 22 of which (14%) were serious. These results are relevant to those designing interfaces for decision-support, tutorial and student testing systems.
