Abstract: Knowledge sharing and reuse require more than just a standardized representation for propositional knowledge. System builders must be able to share and reuse the control knowledge that structures large application tasks. The PROTEGE-II architecture allows developers to build new knowledge-based systems by selecting and modifying reusable problem-solving methods and domain ontologies. In this paper, we discuss the nature of our problem-solving methods and their building blocks, and describe how the knowledge roles defined by problem-solving methods may be mapped to elements of a domain ontology.
