Abstract: The long term goal of this project is to build a knowledge-based environment for software system designers. A particular emphasis is being placed on creating a symbiotic environment in which the tools of the environment are carefully selected to complement the general skills and activities of human designers. Our hypothesis is that to increase the productivity of human designers, the best approach is to provide them with an environment that supports the way they design.
