Abstract: In this paper we introduce context dependent behaviors (CDBs) as a way of organizing the multiple models of primitive components. A CDB describes the class of behaviors exhibited by a primitve component in a particular context. The context of a primitive component is used to select relevant CDBs for it. We identify three types of context-structural context, behavioral context, and expected device behavior-and show how they may be used to select CDBs for the primitive components. We also compare CDB-based ontologies with component- based and process-based ontologies.
