Abstract: This paper describes the desire to speed up programs in the field of Artificial Intelligence through the use of parallel hardware architectures and why this objective is not a simple one to achieve. Poligon, a system designed to investigate ways to mount Artificial Intelligence programs on parallel hardware, is described, experiments performed to date on this system are described and tentative results are given. Achieving useful speed-up has proven very difficult. These difficulties are enumerated and explained.
