Context-Specific Interpretation of Patient Records for a Therapy Advice System

Reference: Kahn, M. G.; Fagan, L. M.; & Shortliffe, E. H. Context-Specific Interpretation of Patient Records for a Therapy Advice System. 1986.

Abstract: We describe a program that analyzes computer-based patient records to detect unusual events, temporal trends, and recurring patterns. The interpretation program first uses an augmented transition network (ATN) followed by a rule- based system to perform context-specific temporal analysis of records from patients receiving experimental chemotherapy treatments. This interpretation will be incorporated into a management advice program that will use the outcomes of past treatment decisions to alter current management recommendations.
